In May 2017, I took a trip to Bali, Indonesia to escape the world I was in. Exactly a year prior, I suddenly lost my aunt who was extremely dear to my heart. This made my summer 2016 one of the toughest ones I've had. I was so heartbroken! After living in the states for 13 years, I decided to move back home to Kuwait to be with family. The sudden transition was hard, I had to sacrifice a lot which caused me to feel like I was trapped in a dark place. I had to help my family a lot and that had me so drained. I wasn't ready for some of the sacrifices were made but I had to be there for my family during the toughest times. Between the emotional baggage of my family and transitioning home after many years,  this lead me to a depressing state. I had to figure out how to get myself out of that drained state..

So I decided to book a week trip to Bali, Indonesia and disconnet from everyone I know. I wanted to be alone, I wanted to be on my own with my emotions and figure things out without any distractions. I turned my phone off for the whole week and cut all communications from everyone. That included family, friends, social media and work. I wanted to really experience how it would be to with myself at all times and be present in every single moment.

During this trip, I found my way to an Island called "Gili Air" Island and I fell in love with it.  It was a true definition of what an island should be like. There are no cars, just horse carriages to bring you around.  It's a small island that you could walk around it in 2 hours. You can view the sunrise on one side and sunset on the other. You really remove yourself from the fast living and live in simplicity.

Being on the island made me connect with myself in ways I never thought I could. Suddenly, I was able to clear my mind, be present and most importantly be happy. I was on a natural high for the whole time I was there. The scenary, the people, the food, just everything about the island was unreal. After my trip, I was literally on cloud 9 for weeks. I couldn't stop smiling and I finally got out of my depressing state that I've been in for almost a year.  And all it took was a week of detachment.

I want others to experience what I have during my trip. This is why "Detach with Dork" yoga retreat was created. I want people to take the time to detach themselves from others and things that they're use to and connect with themselves. I want you to get to know yourself on a whole different level and what better way to do it than on this magical place?
